What is the mood of this novel?
The mood of this novel is strict, depressing, and inhumanely. Everything is watched and controlled. The part that really astonished me, was the “mind crime” how can they punish for thinking. It really saddens me that people must have no joy, happiness, and love in their lives. Especially when they vaporize people and erase their identity forever, it makes me feel then what is the point of living? The mood also saddens me that people in this novel is hopeless. As I was reading, I felt there is nothing they can do to resist "the Party" I was dismayed that there is no solution for them but just follow along.

Hey Sophia~
I'm the first one to post a comment on your blog! YEAH!
I do agree on what you think the mood of the novel is. Everything is so ordered, depressing, and inhuman. I totally agree with you on punishing people for mind crime. But you also need to realized that the most important place you need to overule in order to control people is the mind and your thinking. You can always act like your submitting but think in a different way. The party wanted to have total control over everything. To gain that control they had to keep people from thinking of new ideas and rebellious thoughts. I disagree with you on the part where poeple feel that they had no reason to live. They actually didn't know or were able to identify those kind of feelings. But opnions vary. Next time just write everything that comes to mind. Your post didn't seem to have a definite ending. Still awesome job!
I agree with the mood. I also think that the mood of this novel is depressing and hopeless. I wouldn't be able to live in this dystopian world. Imagine yourself being watched everywhere you go! It's terrible... Anyways, good post~
Haha its so funny that whichever blog I go to I always see Jesse's or Josep's or both of their comments. Anyway, I totally agree to this post. I like the way she expressed the dystopian world. I thnk everybody would agree that no one will be able to survive a world like that because everybody wrote about the same thing about the mood of 1984. Good job everybody!
I agree with you about what you said about the mood of this novel. It really is hopeless for people who think differently than others, isn't it? And, I think you're right about how the people in that dystopian world have no choice but to follow the flow like everyone else. That's really unimaginable for us. I'm so glad I'm living in the 21st century!
Anyway, you said that you said that the people probably had no reason to live. I disagree with you in that part.
Well,,,
in the novel, people(esepecially children) always are living in violence. And they DO have feelings of love, just that it's all directed towards Big Brother. Their reason of living is serving the party. If we think about that in our perspective, it may be very wrong, but they grew up that way, and they at least have a motive for living, do they not?
